223 years ago . . . In 1791, WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART died under mysterious circumstances at age 35.  It may have been a kidney infection, or perhaps the trichinosis from eating bad pork.

160 years ago . . . In 1854, Aaron Allen of Boston PATENTED A FOLDING THEATER CHAIR.

85 years ago . . . In 1929, THE FIRST U.S. NUDIST ORGANIZATION, THE AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR PHYSICAL CULTURE, OPENED IN NEW YORK CITY.

81 years ago . . . In 1933, PROHIBITION ENDED at 5:32 P.M. as Utah became the 36th state to ratify the 21st Amendment.  That one repealed the ridiculous 18th Amendment that had outlawed all booze for nearly 14 years.

(You know you’re an alcoholic when you’ll pass an AMENDMENT TO AN AMENDMENT just to get a drink.)

63 years ago . . . In 1951, the first PUSH BUTTON-CONTROLLED GARAGE opened in Washington, D.C.

59 years ago . . . In 1955, the black community of Montgomery, Alabama, launched their “BUS BOYCOTT”.  Most of them couldn’t afford cars and relied on the city buses, but for OVER A YEAR they refused to ride them . . .

. . . which was in response to the arrest of THE GREAT ROSA PARKS, who refused to give up her seat to a white man.

50 years ago . . . In 1964, “RINGO”, BY LORNE GREENE, HIT #1 ON THE POP SINGLES CHART!

46 years ago . . . In 1968, GRAHAM NASH quit the Hollies.  Three days later, he announced the formation of CROSBY, STILLS & NASH.

34 years ago . . . In 1980, JOHN LENNON gave what would be his LAST INTERVIEW.  It was with “Rolling Stone” magazine, and three days later he was shot and killed.

22 years ago . . . In 1992, ICE CUBE’S album “The Predator”, the one with “It Was A Good Day” and “Check Yo Self”,debuted at #1 on both the pop and R&B charts . . . making him the first hardcore rapper to accomplish that feat.

21 years ago . . . In 1993, DOUGLAS HOPKINS, the lead songwriter for the GIN BLOSSOMS, committed suicide at his home in Tempe, Arizona, at the age of 32.  (He’d been fired from the band the previous year due to his out-of-control boozing.)

11 years ago . . . In 2003, GWYNETH PALTROW married COLDPLAY singer CHRIS MARTIN just five months before giving birth to their daughter, Apple.  They consciously uncoupled earlier this year.

Six years ago . . . In 2008, O.J. SIMPSON was sentenced to 33 years in prison after being convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping.  In sports, that’s known as a “make-up call.”
