Lebron James Goes Back To No. 23

Photo: sportspickle.com

When LEBRON JAMES “took his talents to South Beach” back in 2010, he also changed his number from “23” to “6”.  He’d worn 23 in Cleveland as a tribute to MICHAEL JORDAN. . . and the change to 6 was also a tribute.

At the time, LeBron was trying to get the entire NBA to retire the number.  He said, quote, “I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon . “I feel like no NBA player should wear 23″ said the 2-time champion. “I’m starting a petition, and I’ve got to get everyone in the NBA to sign it.  Now, if I’m not going to wear number 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it.”  Nothing ever came of that.  The Chicago Bulls and LeBron’s new team the Miami Heat both retired the number for Jordan, but no one else followed suit. Apparently, LeBron has given up on this, because over the weekend, he announced that he’d be reclaiming the number 23 when he returns to the Cavilers, and that came with no mention of Michael. So, is Michael upset about LeBron seemingly going back on his word?  Nah.  He says, quote, “I’m cool with it.  I don’t own a number.”

Who Won At The Box Office This Weekend?

Photo: Internetmonk

SCARLETT JOHANSSON beat THE ROCK at the box office this weekend, by a pretty wide margin.  “Lucy” brought in a better-than-expected $44 million, compared to just $29 million for “Hercules”. It’s even more impressive when you consider the budget for the two movies:  “Lucy” cost an estimated $40 million to make, which means it’s already made back its entire budget . . . while “Hercules” cost $100 million, so it hasn’t even made a third of that yet.

Here are this week’s Top 10 movies:

1.  NEW:  “Lucy”, $44 million.

2.  NEW:  “Hercules”, $29 million.

3.  “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, $16.4 million.  $172 million in its 3rd week.

4.  “The Purge: Anarchy”, $9.9 million.  Up to $51.3 million in its 2nd week.

5.  “Planes: Fire & Rescue”, $9.3 million.  Up to $35.1 million in its 2nd week.

6.  “Sex Tape”, $6 million.  Up to $26.9 million in its 2nd week.

7.  “Transformers: Age of Extinction”, $4.6 million.  $236 million in its 5th week.

8.  NEW:  “And So It Goes”, $4.55 million.

9.  “Tammy”, $3.4 million.  Up to $78.1 million in its 4th week

10.  NEW:  “A Most Wanted Man”, $2.7 million.

14 Things You Shouldn’t Buy at Costco

Photo: wikipedia

Not everything is better in bulk.  Some things you WON’T get a deal on at Costco include books, skin creams, soda, produce, milk, electronics, diapers, condiments, clothing and shoes, and canned goods. Check out a list of things you WON’T get a deal on at Costco.

1.  Books and DVDs.  Usually Amazon has better deals.  Up to 20% cheaper prices than Costco

2.  Sunscreen and skin lotion.  You don’t end up saving because skin creams go bad after a few months.  Long before you go through two or three Costco-sized bottles.

3.  Soda.  Grocery stores have better deals when they put it on sale.

4.  Produce.  The prices are always the same at Costco, but if you buy when things are in season, you get huge price drops at the grocery store.

5.  Printer paper.  Costco gives you good deals.  But if you get special offer emails from an office supply store, you can get paper for FREE a couple times a year.

6.  Paper products.  Bath tissue and paper towels are cheaper at the grocery store when they go on sale, and you can use coupons to save even more money.

7.  Milk.  The grocery store is usually cheaper, and you can buy one gallon at a time.

8.  Electronics.  Stores like Best Buy usually have better deals on TVs and computers.

9.  Diapers.  Generic diapers at Costco are about four cents more per diaper than the generic brands at Target and Walmart.

10.  Liquid bleach and detergents.  They don’t work as well after about six months, so you’re better off buying smaller bottles.

11.  Condiments.  Again, they go bad after about six months.  If you think you can use a gallon of Tapatio in six months, go ahead and take your best shot.

12.  Clothing and shoes.  They might be cheaper, but they’re lower in quality too.

13.  Name-brand cereal.  It’s cheaper at the grocery store when it’s on sale.

14.  Canned goods.  Wait for a sale at the grocery store and save up to 40%.

Here’s Why You Always Choose the Slowest Line at the Grocery Store

Photo: vanderbilt.edu

It seems like you NEVER, EVER pick the right check-out line at the grocery store, right?  No matter how carefully you strategize, you ALWAYS end up in the slow lane . . . next to some coupon lady or a cashier who can’t work the register. Well . . . it’s not your imagination.  The people at “Wired” took a look at the phenomenon, and there are three factors that make sure you always get screwed.

1.  Grocery stores monitor how many customers there are, and open a specific number of checkout lanes . . . JUST enough to handle the flow.  So if there’s even a SLIGHT delay in one lane, like a price check, that creates a pile-up and screws everything up.

Why don’t they hire more employees?  It’s a business . . . they only want to pay for as many workers as they have to, and it’s not always that busy.

2.  The odds are always against you.  If there are three lanes open, you’ve only got a 33% chance of picking the fastest one . . . meaning two out of three times, you’ll guess wrong and see other people moving faster.  It’s not just in your mind.

3.  Places like Best Buy and Barnes and Noble use a better system where everyone’s in one line, and the first person in line just goes to whichever cashier is open next.  And mathematically that IS a faster way to get people out.

But studies have found people don’t LIKE that system.  We like to feel like WE’RE in control . . . and picking our own lane gives us that feeling.

Ten Tricks To Make Your Summer Cooler & Better

Photo: www.goldeditor.com

Summer would be perfect if it wasn’t so stupid hot all the time, but you can keep the heat from getting to you, if you know a handful of easy tricks. Check out some easy tricks to make your summer better.

1.  Buckle your seat-belt when you leave the car, so it won’t burn when you come back.

2.  Put dryer sheets in your shoes when you come home, to keep them from smelling.

3.  Stand freezer pops straight up before they freeze, so they’re easier to cut open.

4.  Put a beer coozie over your gear shift when it gets too hot to touch.

5.  Wrap bottles in a wet paper towel and put them in the freezer to get them cold faster.

6.  When you go to the beach, roll your valuables in a clean diaper.  You can leave them alone all day and no one will come near them.

7.  Sprinkle baby powder on your skin to remove sand more easily.

8.  Put a cupcake liner around your popsicle to catch the drips, and avoid sticky hands.

9.  Use creamy baby oil instead of bug spray.  It works just as well and smells better.

10.  Make your own lawn sprinkler out of a two-liter soda bottle.  Punch holes in it, screw a garden hose onto the top, and let ‘er rip.

ESPN “Body Issue” Images Released

Photo: ESPN

More pictures of naked athletes from “ESPN the Magazine’s”2014 Body Issue were released yesterday.  The issue hits newsstands on Friday.

One of this year’s most interesting models is Texas Rangers first baseman PRINCE FIELDER, who’s rather . . . shall we say . . . LARGE AND IN CHARGE.  Prince is a solid, powerful guy, but his chest and belly make him look more like one of those ’70s pro wrestlers than a modern athlete. In the magazine he says, quote, “A lot of people probably think I’m not athletic or don’t even try to work out or whatever, but I do.  Just because you’re big doesn’t mean you can’t be an athlete. “And just because you work out doesn’t mean you’re going to have a 12-pack.  I work out to make sure I can do my job to the best of my ability.  Other than that, I’m not going up there trying to be a fitness model.”

Other naked athletes in this year’s issue include snowboarder and double amputee Amy Purdy, snowboarder Jamie Anderson, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, and swimmer Michael Phelps. See the images HERE

Andre 3000 Shines In Jimi Hendrix Movie

Photo: Youtube

The British-Irish drama film about Jimi Hendrix was written and directed by John Ridley, and Outkast member Andre 3000 shines in the bio-pic role. The film will not include any songs written by Hendrix, as the filmmakers’ request to use them was denied by Experience Hendrix LLC (Hendrix’s estate). Instead, the film – set in London in 1966 and 1967 – will include the songs that Hendrix performed during those years, shortly before the release of his debut album, Are You Experienced. Here is your FIRST LOOK at the trailer for the new movie.
